Supreme Court Notice to Assam Government

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Assam government on a petition against the Gauhati High Court on state-run madrassas. According to the report, the High Court observed that madrasas being maintained by the state through provincialization are affected by Article 28(1) of the Constitution and therefore cannot be allowed to impart religious instruction. The High Court observed this and according to the petition, it is limited only to the State undertaking to administer, manage and control these madrassas besides paying salaries and consequent benefits to the teaching and non-teaching staff employed in the madrassas. Inspector General Assam Rifles' Lunglei Battalion (East) arrested four people after recovering a huge cache of tactical and war-like stores. The incident happened on October 30 near Tuipang village in Siaha district of Mizoram. “This operation is a huge blow to all anti-national activities.
