In Namrup, the Indian government proposes to establish a new urea plant

The Indian government has proposed investing Rs. 10,000 crore to establish a new urea plant at Namrup, Assam. About 1,950 direct and indirect jobs would be created throughout the three-and-a-half-year project, according to Department of Fertilizers Secretary Rajat Kumar Mishra. In her 2025–2026 Budget Address, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned the Namrup urea plant's commissioning. Mishra emphasized the significance of this project for the Northeast, saying, "This is the most awaited project in the North East."
