A massive fire has engulfed a natural-gas producing well of Oil India Limited (OIL) in upper Assam's Tinsukia district, that has been leaking gas for the last 14 days. Smoke from the fire, that began this afternoon, can reportedly be seen from 10 km away and locals claim it has spread to nearby villages. The reduction by the country’s largest lender follows the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bringing down the policy repo rate by 40 basis points last month. Consequently, one year MCLR, against which home loans are priced, will come down to 7 per cent from 7.25 per cent earlier. SBI said EMIs on home loans linked to MCLR will get cheaper by around Rs 421 for a 30 year loan of Rs 25 lakh. Indian Govt to launches facility to file GST via SMS for 2.2 million firms

The government on Monday launched an easy Goods and Services Tax (GST) return filing facility through short message service (SMS) for about 2.2 million registered businesses provided the value of the return is nil. “In a major move towards taxpayer facilitation, the government has today onwards allowed filing of NIL GST monthly return in FORM GSTR-3B through SMS,” a finance ministry spokesperson said.
