A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck near Gujarat's Rajkot at 8.13 PM Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the government's nodal agency for monitoring of seismic activity in the country. The epicentre of the earthquake was 118 km north-northwest of Rajkot, according to the NCS. The quake was felt in cities like Kutch, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Patan, where many people rushed out of their houses. The time of the quake was 8.13 pm. Citizens in high-rises rushed out of their residences in several parts of Ahmedabad.

The Muzaffarnagar district administration has ordered a complete shutdown in the district on Sunday. District Magistrate Selvakumari J. said that it has been decided to impose 'Janata Curfew' and all business establishments, including shops, hotels and malls will remain closed every Sunday. A36-year-old man, who went to catch crabs and fish in the Sunderbans area on Saturday morning, died after a tiger attacked him when he was chopping firewood in the forest, an official said.
