At least 40 cows died of suffocation in a small room of a panchayat building where they were allegedly locked in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, a senior official said on Saturday.The deaths came to light this morning when villagers experienced a foul odour emanating from the room, and found that some of the cattle had died, said Bilaspur collector Saransh Mittar. A day after India's first homegrown vaccine, COvaxin, was administered to a 30-year-old Delhi-based man, no immediate side effect has been reported. The man will be under close monitoring for the next seven days. On Saturday, a few more participants were given the vaccine at AIIMS. The volunteer will be kept in observation for two hours in the hospital. He will then be sent home and be monitored for the next seven days, sources in the AIIMS said. Coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu have crossed the two lakh-mark with 6,989 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, which is also the biggest single-day spike, government data shows. Eighty-nine have died and 7,758 have recovered in the last 24 hours. The total cases in the state is now 2,06,737. The recovery rate in Tamil Nadu is 73 per cent and mortality rate is 1.64 per cent. The flood situation in Bihar continues to remain grim with over 10 lakh people affected by the deluge across the state, while the official death toll has climbed to 18. Among the worst affected districts in Bihar are West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Kishanganj, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, and Khagaria, all of which have reported flood-related deaths. As many as 21 relief camps have been set up across Bihar and 271 community kitchens are operating. Of the latter, 186 are in Darbhanga. New Delhi: The coronavirus recovery rate in Delhi has improved further and crossed 87 per cent as the number of active cases dipped to 12,657 - the lowest in seven weeks. The number of cases reported daily has also seen in a decline in the national capital - 1,142 cases were reported today taking the total caseload to 1,29,531.
