Glenmark launches Covid-19 drug

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd said on Friday it had received an approval from India's drugs regulator to make and sell oral antiviral drug favipiravir for treating mild-to-moderate COVID-19 patients in the country. The Mumbai-based drugmaker said the approval was part of government's accelerated approval process and the drug would be for "restricted emergency use" in the country. Favipiravir is made under the brand name Avigan by Japan's Fujifilm Holdings Corp and was approved for use as an anti-flu drug there in 2014. Family members of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary Snehashish Ganguly tested positive for Covid-19, the state health department said on Friday. The wife of Snehasish, the elder brother of BCCI president Saurav Ganguly was found to be positive for the disease, a senior official said. Delhi becomes second city to cross 50,000-mark after Mumbai

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, the Rs 50,000 crore mega scheme to provide jobs to the migrant workers who returned to their respective villages during the coronavirus-mandated lockdown.
