Bagdogra Airport is set to improve passenger amenities and service standards as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) launches the month-long “Yatri Seva Abhiyaan” from September 17 to October 10. The passenger-centric initiative, also being observed at airports across the country, will focus on cleanliness, passenger assistance and overall convenience, covering areas from the terminal building to the parking zone. AAI officials said the objective is to provide travellers with a smoother experience and maintain improved service standards throughout the year. Bagdogra has witnessed significant growth in passenger and flight traffic, with passenger numbers rising 12.5 per cent to 3.6 million in 2025-26 from 3.2 million in the previous fiscal year. The number of flights also increased by 11.3 per cent to 24,930 from 22,390. The airport has also emerged as an important hub for transporting litchis, with 271.4 metric tonnes shipped to various destinations in 2025-26. In the current fiscal year, the volume has risen sharply to 741.525 metric tonnes, marking a growth of 173.2 per cent. The fruit has been transported by air to Delhi, Mumbai and other metropolitan cities. During the service drive, AAI officials will work closely with airline staff, ground-handling agencies, concessionaires and other stakeholders to improve facilities and passenger services at the airport.
