Security forces in Assam's Cachar district seized heroin valued at Rs 3.25 crore and arrested five individuals during an operation on Saturday. The joint effort by Cachar Police and Assam Rifles was executed based on specific intelligence, targeting vehicles on the Silchar-Kalain Road. Authorities recovered 538 grams of heroin hidden in 48 soap cases and confiscated six mobile phones from the arrested suspects. Three people lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries after a passenger van veered off the road and fell into around 200-feet a hill slope in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday night. The accident occurred at around 9:30 pm on the New Haflong Approach Road in the Boro Haflong area under the Haflong police station when the van's driver reportedly lost control.According to reports, the passengers were returning from the weekly market in Haflong. Police in Dima Hasao district, Assam, arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in a kidnapping and a firing incident. Suresh Kherksha, also known as Harish Chandra (42), was apprehended on March 7 by Officer-in-Charge Himanshu Borgohain. Kherksha is linked to the kidnapping of a truck driver in Longkhor on April 25, 2025, and a firing incident in Dikhakhor on February 16, 2026.
