A government employee from the Transport Department was detained as he was involved in illegal activities. According to GP Singh, Special DGP, Assam, “The government officer, namely Sameswar Brahma Muchahary, 54, was detained by the Kokrajhar district police and is reportedly involved in many illicit operations.” Another one, Assam Directorate Vigilance and Anti-Corruption caught an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the act of receiving bribes and detained him in the Lakhimpur district.

39,000 people have been affected due to the flood in the Dhemaji district. According to sources, heavy rains in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have submerged 76 villages under four revenue circles - Dhemaji, Jonai, Sisborgaon and Gogamukh, several 'new areas' thus raising water levels in many rivers in the district. On the other hand, at least 10 villages named Dihiri Chapri, Dihiri Kachari, Tingharia, No. 2 Changmai Daloni, No. 3 Kamalpur, Azarbari, Tinsukia Kekuri, Dihiri Lepong of Jiadhal area have been affected by the flood. About 70,000 people have been affected by the floods in five districts of Assam.

Justice P B Varale of the Bombay High Court was  elevated as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court while Justice AM Magrey, a judge of the Jammu and Kashmir HC, was appointed its chief justice. "As per the Constitutional provisions, Justice Pankaj Mittal is transferred to Rajasthan as Chief Justice of Rajasthan HC, Justice PB Varale is appointed as Chief Justice of Karnataka HC & Justice AM Magrey as Chief Justice of J&K & Ladakh HC," Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted. A joint team of BSF and Assam Police recovered the heroine worth Tk 47 crore from a truck in Karimganj. The heroin weighs around 9.47 kg and it is worth an estimated Rs 47.4 crore. The driver of the truck has been detained and is being questioned for further details, the official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of ‘Shri Mahakal Lok’ (corridor) in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh. The information came from state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.
