Three Swedish preachers have been arrested for violating visa norms and proselytizing Christians in Naharkatiya in Assam's Dibrugarh district. According to sources, it is learned that the Swedish nationals are being deported to Stockholm by Qatar Airways, after being fined USD 500 each for violating visa rules. Three Swedish preachers viz. Hanna Mikaela, Markus Arne Henrik Blum, and Suzanna Elizabeth Hakanasson were arrested by Dibrugarh Police from Naharkatiya.

A Memorandum of Association (MoA) was signed with Dr B Boroh Cancer Institute, Guwahati on 26 October to provide medical facilities to the beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). This effort could benefit around 115,000 armed forces across the Northeast region. ECHS Scheme aims to provide allopathic and AYUSH treatment across the country to Ex-Servicemen pensioners and their dependents through a network of ECHS polyclinics, service medical facilities, government hospitals, private hospitals/designated government and AYUSH hospitals.

Cyclone Sitrang has damaged several houses in Assam due to heavy rains and storm surge. About 1100 people in 83 villages of Assam have been affected by the flood. According to reports, 325.501 hectares of crops were damaged by uprooting of numerous trees and electric poles in some parts of Assam. Several houses were damaged in Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia Tea Garden and Boraligaon areas of Central Assam district due to the storm.

Assam Police recovers demonetized notes from District Transport Officer

The vigilance wing of the Assam Police recovered Rs 87,000 worth of canceled notes after raiding the house of a District Transport Officer (DTO) on October 21. The state's Special Director-General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, said that the vigilance wing has launched a drive against alleged corruption in Dibrugarh DTO. "Sanjeev Hazarika's house was searched and unaccounted cash of ₹7.03 lakh and canceled notes of ₹87,000 were found," he said.
