Assam’s ‘Hemkosh’ publisher receives Guinness World Record

On Monday, Publisher of the braille version of Hemkosh, Assam's first etymological dictionary Jayanta Baruah receives Guinness World Records Certificate handed by Rishi Nath, the official adjudicator for the Guinness World Records. About the Guinness holder, Jayanta Baruah is the grandson of Hemchandra Baruah, eminent Assamese writer, who had first compiled the Hemkosh in the late 19th Century. However, the Assamese-English dictionary was published four years after Hemchandra Baruah's death. Also the dictionary is also acknowledged as world's largest bilingual braille dictionary.The event was held at Gauhati University. On Saturday, two deaths in kaziranga National Highway 37 took place. According to the sources, the accident took place near Haldhibari locality near Kaziranga, Assam. The commercial vehicle crashed with a truck that was parked on the shoulder of the National Highway. The reason of the accident is not yet confirmed. ‘Gunotsav 2023’ which took place from January 18 to February 18 results were released on Monday by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The evaluation scheme covered 44,531 schools and 41,35,163 (96.69 per cent) students in all 31 districts, Assam. However, the exercise has shown improvement this year compared to 2022, with the number of schools placed in the highest A+ grade category increasing and those in the lowest category going down.
