India’s Ambuja Cements announced a major strategic expansion on Monday, revealing plans to invest ₹14,500 crore ($1.53 billion) to raise its total cement production capacity to 155 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) by fiscal year 2030. This massive capital deployment underlines the company’s determination to capitalize on the sustained momentum within the nation’s infrastructure and housing sectors. Across the country, leading cement manufacturers have been aggressively ramping up their manufacturing and grinding capabilities in recent years, positioning themselves to capture rising market demand while consolidating their presence across crucial growth regions. Currently operating with an established installed capacity of 113.5 MTPA, Ambuja Cements outlined a clear roadmap for incremental growth, projecting its output capacity to reach 119 MTPA by March 2027 before scaling toward the FY30 milestone. The planned expansion covers strategic project setups across multiple key states, including Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. By targeting these regions, the company aims to significantly reinforce its manufacturing footprint across eastern, western, and northern India, enhancing supply chain efficiencies and proximity to core markets. Interestingly, this ambitious expenditure initiative follows closely on the heels of the company’s recent financial results, which reported a 34.7% drop in quarterly net profit driven primarily by elevated freight expenses and rising input fuel costs. Despite these near-term operational headwinds and margin compressions, Ambuja Cements remains steadfast in its vision, choosing to execute a forward-looking capital allocation strategy designed to secure long-term leadership in India’s expanding industrial landscape.
