The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking the government’s intervention on a series of issues, including the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), eviction drives, the pushback of illegal immigrants and the overall law and order situation in the state.
Addressing the media, AIUDF spokesperson Rafikul Islam said the party supports action against illegal immigrants but stressed that any pushback should be carried out only after proper coordination with the Bangladesh government.
He said the party’s position, as articulated by AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal, is that deportation should be undertaken only after verifying the nationality of those concerned and through diplomatic consultation between the two countries.
The AIUDF also reiterated its opposition to the proposed Uniform Civil Code, claiming that the proposed legislation does not reflect the concept of a truly uniform civil code and instead attempts to impose Hindu personal laws.
On the issue of eviction drives, the party demanded that the state government ensure rehabilitation of affected families before carrying out any eviction exercise. According to the memorandum, no family should be displaced without being provided with alternative arrangements.
Referring to allegations linking crime with Muslim-majority areas, Islam rejected such claims and maintained that criminal activities cannot be associated with any particular religion or community.
Commenting on the Ayodhya issue, the AIUDF said the demolition of the Babri Masjid remains an emotional issue for the Muslim community. At the same time, the party stated that since the Ram Temple has now been constructed, it should be respected along with the funds associated with its construction.
The memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister requesting the government to consider the party’s demands and take appropriate action on the issues raised.
