Air India Express has announced a waiver of cargo charges for the transportation of relief materials to Assam, aiming to support humanitarian efforts in flood-affected areas of the state. The initiative is intended to facilitate faster movement of essential supplies by registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and recognised relief agencies engaged in assisting communities impacted by the ongoing floods.
According to the airline, the waiver applies to cargo carried on its flights to Guwahati from Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Eligible consignments include food and dry rations, drinking water, medicines, hygiene and sanitation kits, clothing, blankets, tarpaulins and other humanitarian supplies, subject to regulatory requirements as well as the airline’s verification, acceptance and carriage policies.
Air India Express currently operates six daily flights from Delhi, three daily flights from Bengaluru and two daily flights from Kolkata to Guwahati, providing multiple options for relief organisations to transport emergency supplies into Assam. NGOs and recognised relief agencies can coordinate shipments by contacting the airline’s cargo team through its dedicated email and helpline, which will assist with documentation, packaging guidelines, shipment acceptance and flight allocation based on operational feasibility and available capacity.
In Guwahati, the cargo fee waiver is expected to strengthen the supply chain for relief materials entering Assam, ensuring quicker availability of essential goods in flood-hit regions. Improved logistics could also ease pressure on local procurement, stabilise demand for critical supplies and support humanitarian operations as Guwahati continues to serve as the principal logistics hub for relief distribution across the state.
