Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Tripura Police, seized 9,500 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 38 lakh in Kanchanpur area of North Tripura district on August 31. One person suspected of transporting the narcotics was apprehended during the operation.
The operation was launched after Assam Rifles received specific intelligence inputs about the movement of narcotics through the area. Acting on the information, Assam Rifles personnel and Tripura Police conducted a joint operation in Kanchanpur and intercepted a suspected carrier.
During the search, the security personnel recovered 9,500 Yaba tablets from the person. A TVS Apache motorcycle, suspected to have been used to transport the contraband, was also seized.
Following the recovery, the seized tablets, the apprehended person and the motorcycle were handed over to Kanchanpur Police for further legal action.
Police are investigating the case to determine the source of the narcotics, their intended destination and whether other people were involved in the alleged trafficking network.
The seizure comes amid continued efforts by security agencies and state police forces in the Northeast to check the movement of narcotics through the region. Joint operations and surveillance have been increased in areas considered vulnerable to drug trafficking.
Authorities have been focusing on identifying and disrupting networks involved in the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs. The latest recovery in North Tripura is part of these ongoing enforcement efforts against narcotics trafficking in the region.
