A delegation of 40 students from Rajasthan’s higher education institutions arrived at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, as part of the fifth phase of the government’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam’ programme. Organized to foster cultural and educational exchange, the programme pairs states to promote mutual understanding.
The Rajasthan team, led by IIT Jodhpur, will stay at IIEST Shibpur, the nodal institute for West Bengal, from December 4 to 9, 2024. A grand welcome ceremony was hosted by IIEST, attended by dignitaries including Prof. V. M. S. R. Murthy (Director, IIEST Shibpur), Padma Shri awardee Prof. Ajay Kumar Ray, and other faculty members. The students will explore iconic sites like Belur Math, Victoria Memorial, and Eco Park during their visit.
Shibpur, known for its vibrant cultural offerings, is also a key stop on the itinerary. Delegates are expected to experience the market’s unique blend of traditional Bengal craftsmanship and modern goods, reflecting the evolving cultural landscape of the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme in 2016 to enhance people-to-people connections. This fifth phase emphasizes multidimensional exposure through tourism, traditions, development, people’s connect, and technology. With over 4,795 youth already participating across 114 tours, the programme continues to inspire enthusiasm for cultural integration.
