Wipro Earthian Award Brings National Recognition to North Guwahati Schools

Two schools from North Guwahati, Assam, have gained national recognition by winning the Wipro Earthian National Award, which underscores the significance of student-led environmental education in the region. North Guwahati Girls’ High School won the award for the second consecutive year, with a team of five students, guided by teacher Dulumoni Rabha, selected from over 2,000 entries nationwide. Their project, focusing on sustainability and biodiversity conservation, involved extensive research such as local biodiversity documentation, wildlife surveys, and awareness campaigns concerning endangered species like the Gangetic river dolphin and the greater adjutant stork.

Additionally, Auniati Kamaldev Higher Secondary School (AKHSS), established in 1867, also received the award for its project on water sustainability. Under the leadership of Dr. Akashi Baruah, the team investigated local water challenges and conducted awareness programs for responsible water use, integrating insights from local stakeholders and experts. Both teachers emphasized the importance of these achievements in fostering environmentally conscious citizens and promoting sustainability in education within Assam.
