An aggressive fire broke out at a tannery cum godown in the congested Tangra vicinity of Kolkata on Saturday evening, a senior legitimate of the furnace department said.
Altogether 15 fire tenders had been pressed into provider to douse the flames that unfold to an adjacent constructing which has been evacuated. Two hearth officials had been injured whilst combat the blaze and they were hospitalised, the respectable said. Several different close by homes were also evacuated.
The fireplace broke out at around 6. 30 PM at a building, used as a tannery, on 3 Maher Ali Lane in the area. It is now not but acknowledged whether or not any man or woman is caught inside.
“The cause of the fire is no longer known. Our personnel are working on a war footing to douse it. There have been chemicals, rexin, and garments saved inside the building, which helped the hearth unfold quickly,” the legitimate said. The boundary wall of the tannery has collapsed. Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose reached the region and supervised the rescue operations.
“Our officers are attempting to douse the fire. This is a congested area. It’s pretty difficult for the furnace tenders to enter the narrow lanes. However, they are trying their best,” Bose instructed reporters.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee referred to as up Bose and enquired about the situation. Local humans who had in the beginning alleged that furnace brigade personnel had been late in achieving the area later helped them in the rescue operation.
Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP, tweeted a video of locals assisting fill up a fire soft with water and criticised the position of the branch in carrying out the rescue operation.
“Egiye Bangla in disastrous Disaster Management. Shame shame @MamataOfficial. The Fire & Emergency Services Department’s efficiency has gone down during your tenure,” Adhikari tweeted.
