On Sunday, an enlightening programme titled “Introduction to Vipassana Meditation – A Path to Inner Peace and Mental Well-being” took place at Kalawangpo Convention Hall in Tawang, attended by public leaders, officials, and community members. Sponsored by MLA Tsering Lhamu and coordinated by Sangey Phuntsok Nguimo, the session featured guidance from resource persons Diganta Kalita and Rishikesh, a trustee of the Assam Vipassana Trust, Guwahati.
MLA Tsering Lhamu emphasized the urgent need for mental peace in the modern, fast-paced world, noting the often-overlooked mental well-being amidst societal advancements, which has led to rising stress, anxiety, and depression issues. She also highlighted the negative effects of excessive social media on mental health. In a proactive move, Lhamu announced that Tawang will host two annual 10-day Vipassana meditation camps, aimed at fostering mindfulness, inner balance, and emotional resilience.
The programme’s coordinator, Sangey Phuntsok Nguimo, underscored the importance of Vipassana meditation in addressing contemporary stress and encouraged participants to utilize such initiatives to achieve a balanced life. The session concluded with an informative presentation by Diganta Kalita, who introduced the audience to VIPassana meditation’s fundamental principles through a detailed PowerPoint and an interactive question-answer session. Overall, the programme marked a vital step towards enhancing mental wellness and self-awareness in the region, inspiring attendees to pursue the journey towards inner peace.
