Just a day after Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter in Kanpur, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter. Additional chief secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy will lead the SIT while ADG Hariram Sharma and DIG J Ravindra Gaur have been named as members of the special team. The encounter of gangster Vikas Dubey has created a nationwide stir with certain sections scrutinizing the death and alleging that it was a ‘staged’ encounter by the UP police.
The SIT will submit its report to the government by July 31, the statement said.
The probe team will investigate intelligence and operational failures that led to the death of eight police personnel earlier this month, when they had gone to raid Dubey’s home near Kanpur.
As authorities began scripting the epilogue of the Vikas Dubey crime files, his wife and son, who were picked for questioning by the police, returned to their home in Lucknow after cremating him. And back in his Kanpur village Bikru, the scene of the July 3 ambush in which eight policemen were killed, Rapid Action Force was deployed and police vehicles circled the area, breaking the hush with announcements asking people to come forward with information.
