Vice President Dhankhar urges corporates to invest in education; Hinduja College set to become deemed university

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has called upon Indian corporates to invest in education to establish specialized institutions, emphasizing the need to keep education free from commodification and commercialization. He made these remarks while attending the 75th-anniversary celebrations of Hinduja College of Commerce in Mumbai. During the event, Ashok Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Foundation, announced ambitious plans to transition Hinduja College into a deemed university. He also unveiled a vision to establish a Skill Development Centre and introduce programs in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Climate Finance, and Export-Import Management. The redevelopment of the college into a modern, multi-storied facility is set for completion by 2028, significantly expanding student capacity.

Vice President Dhankhar stressed the importance of incorporating Sanatan principles into education, stating that it promotes inclusivity and cultural grounding. Echoing this sentiment, Ashok Hinduja urged the government to integrate these values into the educational framework. Hinduja Foundation currently supports over 700,000 students across India and aims to empower one million by 2030 through initiatives like Road to School and Road to Livelihood. The college, accredited with NAAC A+ and granted autonomous status in 2022, is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Governor of Maharashtra, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, also attended the event as the Guest of Honour, while Vice President Dhankhar felicitated outstanding students for their achievements. The Hinduja College’s transformation marks a significant step toward India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
