Vi launches ‘Number Rakshak’ at MahaKumbh to reunite separated pilgrims

To address the recurring issue of pilgrims getting lost during the MahaKumbh, leading telecom operator Vi has launched the ‘Vi Number Rakshak’ initiative. The program provides Rudraksh and Tulsi bead bracelets engraved with personal emergency contact numbers, ensuring quick reunification of separated individuals. Every KumbhMela witnesses thousands of people losing contact with their families amid massive crowds. In 2013, around 70,000 individuals were reported missing during the PrayagrajKumbh. This year, over 250 cases were reported on the first day alone. With millions expected to gather at TriveniSangam for the ShahiSnan in February, Vi’s initiative offers a simple yet effective solution to keep pilgrims connected.

The Vi Number Rakshak booth, located near Swami RamanandAcharyaShibirAkhada, provides these complimentary bracelets, particularly benefiting elderly pilgrims and children who may not have mobile phones or struggle with remembering numbers. AvneeshKhosla, Chief Marketing Officer of Vi, stated, “Vi is committed to connecting people when it matters most. This initiative is a testament to our belief that connectivity goes beyond the network.”

Alongside this initiative, Vi has strengthened its network infrastructure in the region, deploying 30 new sites and 40 additional macro and small-cell sites to enhance connectivity. With a significant number of pilgrims traveling from Siliguri and North Bengal, local telecom retailers have noted a rise in inquiries about Vi’s network services. Many travelers prefer Vi for its expanded coverage at the Kumbh, ensuring uninterrupted communication. The initiative has been well received by Siliguri-based travel agencies, who are recommending Vi to pilgrims for a seamless experience at the religious gathering.
