Vi has engaged in a strategic partnership with Samsung to enhance its 4G and 5G network deployments using Samsung’s virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) solutions. This collaboration, ongoing for the past 12-18 months, has successfully conducted network trials in Chennai, India.
Following encouraging trial results and comparable performance to incumbent suppliers, Vi has expanded Samsung’s vRAN deployments to the Karnataka and Bihar circles. These deployments have enabled Vi to meet its 5G Minimum Rollout Obligation (MRO) in Chennai, Karnataka, and Bihar using NSA vRAN architecture.
Jagbir Singh, Chief Technical Officer of Vodafone Idea Limited, commented, “We are proud to demonstrate our leadership in next-generation radio solutions (vRAN) that deliver an enhanced customer experience with better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). This deployment aligns with our technology transformation roadmap and strengthens our vendor ecosystem. We anticipate a significant role for hybrid architecture in enhancing network capabilities.”Samsung’s vRAN solution provides Vi with greater flexibility, scalability, and resource efficiency, ensuring robust performance across 5G, 4G, and 2G spectrums.
