Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, officially opened the 56th Varsity Week at Dibrugarh University. In an effort to promote sports culture among young people, particularly university students, the minister was accompanied by PT Usha, the Queen of Indian Track & Field and Padmashri awardee. Speaking at the ceremony, Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his sincere gratitude to the university community for planning a triumphant Varsity Week celebration.
Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed PT Usha and said he was confident that her leadership would greatly improve the university’s sports facilities and general athletic growth. Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the value of intelligence, aptitude, and tenacity in the cutthroat world of today. He emphasized that although technology is essential to contemporary advancement, it should be used in conjunction with traditional social, cultural, and spiritual values that uphold harmony, love, respect, and dedication.
As a proud graduate of the university, Sonowal praised the students’ tenacity and willpower, saying that these traits will guarantee their success in the future. Sonowal used the story of PT Usha as an example of how to overcome obstacles and reach success. He offered an encouraging statistic from the most recent Olympics in Paris, when students from Stanford University in the United States earned a total of 39 medals, to illustrate the comparability with international academic institutions.
