The capital is set to witness a five-day cultural extravaganza as the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, through its CPSE, North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), hosts the inaugural edition of Uttar Purvi Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, from January 13th to 17th, 2024.
The event aims to showcase the rich diversity of Northeast India, blending traditional arts, crafts, and cultures. Beyond celebration, the Mahotsav serves as a platform for economic opportunities, fostering exchanges in handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings.
Key Highlights:
(i) Handicrafts, Handlooms, and Agri-Horti Produce: The festival will feature 250 participants, showcasing the unique aspects that make the North East a cultural jewel. It presents handcrafted products, textiles, sustainable handicrafts, and indigenous fruits.
(ii) Panel Discussions: Engaging discussions focus on catalyzing the Northeast’s progress, recognizing women leaders, and exploring the economic contributions of youth and workforce.
(iii) Buyer Seller Meets: Facilitating interactions across sectors, the festival aims to enhance economic collaboration and growth. The ONDC partnership connects artisans with digital commerce.
(iv) Cultural Showcase: Traditional dances, mesmerizing performances, and a Fashion Show highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The Mahotsav will witness the inauguration of Barak Hostel at JNU, accommodating 400 students from the NER, and the foundation stone laying of a North East Convention Centre at Dwarka.
