United People’s Party Liberal Unveils Initial Candidates for 2026 Assam Polls

Pramod Boro, president of the United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL), was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha and will run for the assembly elections from the Tamulpur constituency. UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary announced the first list of seven candidates, stating that the party intends to contest all 15 constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). A second candidate list will be released shortly. The UPPL is part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and competes primarily with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the region. In the recent Rajya Sabha elections, Boro, along with BJP candidates Jogendra Mohan and Terash Gowala, was elected unopposed for three seats from Assam. Narzary will contest from Dotma, while incumbent Kokrajhar MLA Lawrence Islary has been re-nominated for the same seat. Other candidates include former All Bodo Students’ Union president Dipen Boro for Udalguri, three-time former MLA Kamalsing Narzary from Bijni, Aninda Basumatary from Gossaigaon, and Nereshon Boro from Bhergaon. Currently, UPPL holds seven seats in the 126-member assembly, with Urkhwa Gwra Brahma serving as the Handloom and Textile Minister in the state cabinet.
