Guwahati, Dec 26:
The United Bengali Forum, Assam has submitted a memorandum to the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, expressing serious concern over what it described as an alarming rise in violence, persecution and systematic oppression of minority communities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
The memorandum, dated December 26, was submitted through the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati. The forum stated that the situation of minorities has worsened under the country’s new interim government, with increasing incidents of targeted killings, arson attacks, vandalism of religious places and forced displacement.
A major incident highlighted in the memorandum was the brutal killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment factory worker, in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on the night of December 18, 2025. According to the forum, Das was attacked by a mob on allegations of insulting religious sentiments. He was reportedly beaten to death, his body tied to a tree and set on fire near the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, creating shock and fear among local residents. The forum further stated that investigators later found no evidence to support the allegations made against him.
The forum also expressed concern over the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmaya Das Prabhu, alleging that spiritual leaders advocating peace and communal harmony were being targeted and denied justice.
The memorandum claimed there has been a significant rise in violent assaults on minority communities, desecration of religious sites—especially Hindu places of worship—organized looting of properties and systematic arson attacks that have left many families homeless.
It further alleged that anti-India activities were being carried out openly in Bangladesh by extremist elements, which, according to the forum, has been damaging communal harmony across the region.
Calling for urgent intervention, the United Bengali Forum urged the Bangladesh government to take immediate steps to ensure justice for victims, protect minority lives, properties and religious freedoms, restore communal harmony and prevent further violence. The forum also advocated a permanent solution to the recurring cycle of violence, suggesting the establishment of a separate homeland for minorities within Bangladesh to ensure their safety, security and dignity.
