Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur visits Sikkim to strengthen Northeast ties

On November 18, Member of Parliament Shri Indra Hang Subba met with Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Ram Nath Thakur, during his two-day official visit to Sikkim, part of the Poorvottar Sampark Setu program. The visit, which took place from November 17 to November 19, 2024, aims to enhance monitoring and streamline Union Ministers’ interactions with the Northeast Region. As part of the initiative, Minister Thakur is participating in an event in Mangan, North Sikkim. Subba welcomed the Union Minister at Raj Bhawan, where Thakur is staying, expressing his gratitude for the Minister’s visit and commitment to the state.

The meeting focused on key issues facing Sikkim, particularly agriculture and infrastructure. Shri Subba raised concerns about the state of agriculture in the region and the condition of roads connecting North Sikkim. He highlighted the critical importance of these roads for both the state’s development and national security, referencing his recent visit to North Sikkim (October 1–4), where the condition of these roads was a significant point of focus.

In response, Ram Nath Thakur assured Shri Subba of his full support and promised to take steps to address the concerns raised, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the welfare of the state and its people.
