Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, unveiled the Jeevika Didi Training Cum Production Centre today in Begusarai, Bihar, marking a milestone in empowering rural women in the textiles sector. This state-of-the-art facility, developed in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), NIFT Patna, and five Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), will serve as both a training hub and production center for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the region.
Spanning 10,000 square feet, the center will provide women with crucial skills in production, branding, financial literacy, and e-commerce, enabling them to transform raw fabric into marketable products for both local and global markets. Minister Singh emphasized the role of women in driving India’s progress, highlighting the success of the Jeevika Didi initiative in agriculture and other sectors.
The center also aims to enhance market accessibility by establishing decentralized production units at the block and gram panchayat levels. In Guwahati, similar initiatives are gaining traction, fostering a growing interest in rural textiles and handicrafts. The training programs, covering apparel, gems, and handicrafts, will be tailored to meet industry demands, equipping women with the tools for entrepreneurship and economic independence.
