Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, inaugurated the nation’s maiden Skill India Centre (SIC) in Sambalpur, Odisha. The event marked a pivotal moment in India’s quest to build a skilled and competent workforce to drive its development agenda forward in the 21st century.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pradhan emphasized the critical need for skilled manpower in fueling India’s growth trajectory. He highlighted the center’s mission to democratize access to quality education and level the playing field for aspiring youth by offering low-cost courses tailored to meet the demands of the evolving job market. With a focus on imparting skills in high-demand sectors such as Media & Entertainment, Leather, Tourism & Hospitality, and IT-ITeS, the Skill India Centre aims to equip over 1200 students annually with industry-relevant expertise. The initiative aligns closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of nurturing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic prosperity.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Shri. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Shri Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, NSDC and MD, NSDC International, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment for youth. Furthermore, the establishment of similar centers across Odisha, including in Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Talcher, and Deogarh, underscores the government’s concerted efforts to address regional skill needs and create sustainable employment opportunities.
