Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a special International Yoga Day session on the banks of the Brahmaputra River on Sunday morning.
Underlining the significance of yoga, the Chief Minister said that yoga is Bharat’s gift to the world and an ancient practice that promotes a fit and healthy lifestyle.
Sarma noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has evolved into a global movement embraced by millions across the world.
“Beginning the day with the spirit of wellness and harmony at the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at Uzanbazar, Guwahati,” the Chief Minister stated.
“Over the last 12 years, through the Yoga Day, we have been promoting the way to an active and disease-free lifestyle. From kids to the elderly, Yoga helps everyone heal and stay rejuvenated and our Pradhan Mantri ji is leading from the front in showing us the benefits of Yoga!” he took to social media to state.
The Yoga Day programme was also attended by Assam ministers Ashok Singhal and Ajanta Neog, along with other dignitaries and participants who joined the mass yoga session.
The event formed part of the nationwide celebrations marking International Yoga Day 2026, with yoga sessions being organized across the country to promote awareness about healthy living and holistic wellness.
