Union Budget 2024 draws praise from Sikkim CM for disaster relief focus

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has lauded the Union Budget 2024 for its significant provisions aimed at aiding recovery from the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) disaster that hit the state in October 2023.

In the budget announcement made by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today, relief funds were allocated specifically to support Sikkim’s recovery efforts. This decision has been warmly received by Tamang, who commended the central government for its timely and essential assistance.

“We are deeply grateful to the central government for addressing the concerns outlined in our report submitted to the Union government and the Home Minister. The relief support announced today is a crucial boost for Sikkim’s recovery initiatives,” Tamang said.

The Chief Minister also praised the Union Budget for its broad inclusiveness and positive impact on various sectors, including youth, the underprivileged, and farmers. “This budget is both comprehensive and beneficial for all segments of society. I congratulate the central government for their dedicated efforts and support,” Tamang added.
