UMEED 2026 Empowers Class XII Students with Career Guidance and Leadership Skills

The Education Department of the Government of Sikkim successfully organised and concluded “UMEED 2026,” a two-day Leadership and Career Advancement Conclave, at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Assam Lingzey in Pakyong district on February 7 and 8. The programme was conducted by the PM Shri Section of the department with the objective of guiding Class XII students who are preparing to move from school education to higher studies and professional careers.

The conclave was designed keeping in mind the challenges that students usually face during the transition from school to college. Many students often feel uncertain about career choices, higher education opportunities, and the skills required for future success. To address these concerns, the programme focused on leadership development, career awareness, and personal growth. The organisers aimed to provide students with practical guidance so that they could make informed decisions about their academic and professional future.

Students from various PM Shri Schools across Sikkim participated in the event. The gathering created a platform where young learners from different districts could come together, interact with experts, and learn about a wide range of educational and career opportunities. Teachers from 26 schools also attended the programme and supported the students during the sessions.

The first day of the conclave was attended by the Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Raju Basnet, who joined the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, he spoke about the importance of education and encouraged them to remain focused on their goals. Sharing experiences from his own life, he told the students that dedication, discipline, and clear planning are important for success. He also highlighted the government’s continued efforts to improve educational facilities and ensure that students receive the necessary support to continue their studies.

During his address, the minister reiterated the vision of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, stating that no student in the state should be forced to stop education due to financial difficulties. He assured the participants that the Government of Sikkim remains committed to supporting students who wish to pursue higher education in government or private institutions, both within the country and abroad. He encouraged students to aim high, work with confidence, and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
