Two young women were rescued from a suspected inter-state human trafficking operation in Assam’s Dhubri district, while police arrested a woman allegedly linked to the racket, officials said.
The action followed intelligence inputs that led Gauripur Police to a house belonging to a man identified as Abul Hussain in Chitolkati.
Police said the two women, who are from Vella in Barpeta district, had allegedly been brought to Gauripur after being promised jobs. Investigators suspect they were being prepared for onward transportation to Bihar.
During the raid, police safely recovered both women and arrested Mariyam Bibi, a resident of Alomganj, on suspicion of being involved in the trafficking operation.
Investigators are examining whether the accused woman has connections with a wider network involved in trafficking people across district and state borders. Efforts are also underway to identify other individuals allegedly associated with the racket.
