The Department of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT), which is affiliated with Sikkim University, will organize a two-day workshop titled “Meditation for Everyday Life: Practice and Applications” on March 6 and 7, 2026, at Namgyal Hall, Deorali, Gangtok. The programme will be led by His Eminence the 8th Chokyong Palga Rinpoche, a respected spiritual teacher known for guiding meditation and Buddhist learning programmes in different parts of the country and abroad.
Officials of the institute said the workshop has been planned to help participants understand how meditation can be practiced in daily life and how simple mindfulness techniques can support mental balance, emotional stability, and overall well-being. The programme is open to students, working professionals, and any interested individuals who wish to learn meditation in a simple and practical manner.
According to the organizers, the sessions will be conducted in English so that participants from different backgrounds can easily follow the teachings. During the two-day programme, His Eminence Chokyong Palga Rinpoche will guide participants through practical meditation exercises, discussions, and interactive sessions focusing on how meditation can be applied in routine activities such as study, work, and personal life. Organizers stated that the aim is not only to teach meditation techniques but also to help participants understand how to maintain calmness, focus, and clarity in everyday situations.
The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, one of the leading research institutions dedicated to Buddhist studies, Tibetan language, culture, and Himalayan traditions, regularly conducts academic lectures, workshops, and public awareness programmes. Officials said that this workshop is part of the institute’s continued effort to connect traditional knowledge with modern lifestyle needs, especially at a time when many people are looking for simple ways to manage stress and improve concentration.
Participants registering for the workshop will be provided tea and lunch on both days, and each participant will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the programme. The registration fee has been kept affordable to encourage wider participation. Students will have to pay Rs 300, while the fee for other participants has been fixed at Rs 700.
Interested individuals can register online through the institute’s official website or complete offline registration by visiting the Department of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies during office hours. Organizers have also informed that the last date for registration is February 28, 2026, and seats are limited. Participants have therefore been advised to complete their registration early to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
Officials said the workshop is expected to attract participants not only from Sikkim but also from nearby states and educational institutions, as meditation and mindfulness programmes have been gaining growing interest among young people and professionals. Many educational institutions and organizations are now encouraging meditation practices as part of mental wellness activities, and such workshops provide an opportunity to learn directly from experienced teachers.
They further added that the presence of His Eminence Chokyong Palga Rinpoche will make the workshop especially valuable, as participants will be able to receive direct guidance and practical instructions from a senior spiritual teacher with long experience in teaching meditation and Buddhist philosophy.
The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology administration expressed hope that the workshop will help participants develop simple meditation habits that can be continued even after the programme ends. Officials also said that the institute plans to organize more such public learning programmes in the future to promote awareness about meditation, Buddhist philosophy, and traditional Himalayan knowledge systems.
