Two senior officers of the Sikkim Civil Service (SCS) have been inducted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) after completing the formal process of selection for the vacancies meant for the Select List of 2024. The state government confirmed the development on Friday and said that the induction has been approved as per the rules of the central selection procedures. According to officials, the two officers are Sarika Pradhan and Norzing Tsering Shenga. Both belong to the 2002 batch of the Sikkim Civil Service and have spent more than twenty years in different administrative roles in the state. Their names were sent for consideration earlier and have now been cleared for induction into the IAS cadre.
Sarika Pradhan is presently serving as the Secretary of the Social Welfare Department. She has worked in various departments in the past and is known for handling different responsibilities linked with social programmes and welfare initiatives in the state. Officials say that she has also worked in field administration in earlier postings and has experience in administrative work at different levels. Norzing Tsering Shenga is currently posted as Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department. He has handled several assignments over the past two decades including field-level postings and responsibilities in departments connected with public service delivery. People familiar with the matter said that he has worked in various offices dealing with administrative and supply-related matters during his service period.
Officials in the state government stated that the induction of these two officers into the IAS is a significant step for the administration of Sikkim. They added that such inductions allow state civil service officers to receive wider responsibilities and opportunities at both state and central levels.
