Two Abducted Men Freed, Five Held in Overnight Assam Police Crackdown

A late-night, coordinated operation by Assam Police resulted in the rescue of two abducted men and the arrest of five suspects in a ransom kidnapping case in the Boko–Chaygaon subdivision. According to police sources, the operation was launched after Noonmati Police Station received information around 11:30 pm about the abduction of a 24-year-old Md. Sanidul Ali. He was allegedly taken toward the Sontoli area by unidentified individuals, who later demanded a ransom of ₹10 lakh and threatened to kill him if the demand was not met. Acting swiftly, police teams from Sontoli, Topamari, Mandira, and Chamariya stations were mobilised under the supervision of the Co-District Superintendent of Police, Boko–Chaygaon. With the help of technical inputs and local intelligence, officers were able to track the suspects.

During the operation, a Maruti Swift (AS-01FT-9573) was intercepted at Selosuti Mathauri. Five individuals were apprehended at the scene. They were identified as Abu Jobayer Akond (24), Sajid Ali (23), Haidar Ali (20), Rakibul Alamin (19), and Noor Islam (19), all residents of areas under Boko and Goroimari police stations.

Two victims — Md. Sanidul Ali of Noonmati and 28-year-old Imdadul Hoque from Barpeta district — were found inside the vehicle and safely rescued. Investigators said both had been held to extort ransom. A case has been registered, and legal proceedings against the accused are underway. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether more individuals were involved and to piece together the full sequence of events.
