TVS Motor launches Orbiter V1 electric scooter with BaaS model, price starts at Rs 49,999

TVS Motor Company on Thursday expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1, a new entry-level electric scooter powered by a 1.8 kWh battery. Along with the launch, the company also introduced Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) across its EV portfolio to provide customers with a flexible ownership model. With the addition of the Orbiter V1 and the BaaS model, the company’s EV scooter range now starts at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, inclusive of PM e-Drive subsidy). Customers opting without the BaaS model can purchase the scooter at ₹84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi). The BaaS option separates the vehicle cost from the battery cost, allowing users to subscribe to battery usage with payment plans starting from ₹862 per month along with extended warranty coverage up to 5 years or 70,000 km.

The scooter follows a modern design philosophy with an 845 mm flat seat, 290 mm straight-line footboard, upright handlebar for ergonomic riding, and 34-litre under-seat storage capable of accommodating two helmets. The Orbiter range now includes two variants—V1 with 1.8 kWh and V2 with 3.1 kWh, the latter having been launched last year. Speaking on the launch, Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, said the Orbiter V1 provides the most accessible entry point into the company’s electric scooter lineup while BaaS offers greater flexibility in EV ownership by separating vehicle and battery costs. Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President and Head Commuter & EV Business, said the move is aimed at accelerating EV adoption by making electric mobility more practical and accessible for everyday urban commuting.

The launch could find strong traction in Guwahati, where demand for affordable electric two-wheelers has been rising amid increasing fuel prices and growing environmental awareness. Dealers in the region note that entry-level pricing combined with flexible subscription models like BaaS may encourage first-time EV buyers in Assam and neighbouring Northeast states to consider electric scooters for daily commuting. The city’s expanding charging infrastructure and short urban travel distances also make electric scooters a practical mobility option for local riders.
