Turkish Airlines unveiled its 500th aircraft, named “TK Family,” at a special ceremony at Istanbul Airport, marking a major milestone in the airline’s journey since its founding in 1933 with just five aircraft. The milestone aircraft features a unique livery designed with photographs of the airline’s 100,000 employees and retirees, symbolising unity and collective achievement.
The unveiling ceremony saw participation from Turkish Airlines executives, employees, retirees, aviation industry representatives, and the children of martyrs representing all 81 provinces of Türkiye. The aircraft also performed a ceremonial flight under flight number TK500, tracing the number “500” in the sky to celebrate the beginning of the airline’s “Second 500” growth era. Chairman Prof. Ahmet Bolat said the new aircraft reflects 93 years of dedication and shared vision, noting that the airline now serves 356 destinations across six continents and aims to expand its fleet to 1,000 aircraft by 2036. Aircraft marking earlier milestones 100th (2006), 200th (2012), 300th (2016), and 400th (2023) were also showcased at the venue.
In Kolkata, aviation analysts note that Turkish Airlines’ continued fleet expansion is expected to enhance long-haul connectivity between India and Europe, potentially boosting passenger traffic and cargo movement from eastern India as demand for international travel steadily rises.
