Turkish Airlines has finalised an agreement with Boeing for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft, marking the airline’s largest-ever Boeing single-aisle aircraft order as it expands its short- and medium-haul network. The deal, finalised in the presence of Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, comprises 100 firm Boeing 737-8 aircraft and options for 50 additional 737 MAX jets. The agreement also provides substitution rights for the larger 737-10.
Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Prof Murat Şeker said the aircraft would provide greater efficiency and flexibility while supporting the airline’s Istanbul-based network. Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope said the order reflected the longstanding partnership between the two companies.
The Boeing 737-8 is expected to support high-demand domestic and international routes, offering range and payload flexibility while delivering up to 20% lower fuel consumption and emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft. Turkish Airlines, including AJet, currently operates more than 200 Boeing aircraft.
In Kolkata, the fleet expansion could strengthen connectivity between India’s eastern metropolitan hub and Istanbul over the longer term, particularly as demand for international travel and connections through Istanbul develops. The agreement follows Turkish Airlines’ 75-aircraft 787 Dreamliner order in 2025.
The airline and Boeing also signed an Industrial Participation MoU this year covering skill development, value creation and business awards, aimed at technology transfer, capability building and wider industrial cooperation in Türkiye.
