Turkish Airlines expands Romania network with Timișoara flights, boosts weekly frequency to 47

Turkish Airlines has launched flights to Timișoara, marking its fourth destination in Romania after Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Constanta. The new service, operating five times a week, takes the airline’s total weekly frequency in Romania to 47 flights. An inauguration ceremony was held at Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport, attended by airline and airport officials, highlighting the route’s role in strengthening regional connectivity. Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi said Romania remains a key strategic market in Eastern Europe, adding that the new route will enhance travel options and improve access to the airline’s global network via Istanbul.

Located along the Bega River, Timișoara—often called “Little Vienna”—is known for landmarks such as Union Square and Victory Square. The city, named European Capital of Culture in 2023, continues to attract both tourists and business travellers due to its strong infrastructure and vibrant cultural scene. Flights will operate on multiple weekly schedules with departures from Istanbul and return services from Timișoara. To mark the launch, Turkish Airlines has introduced special fares starting from USD 169 for the Istanbul–Timișoara–Istanbul route.

Travel operators in Kolkata see the new route as a positive development for Eastern India passengers connecting via Istanbul. Industry players say improved connectivity to emerging European destinations like Timișoara could boost outbound tourism and business travel from the Kolkata market, especially with competitive fares and expanded global access offered by Turkish Airlines.
