The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from its Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted across Kolkata Telecom District and parts of North and South 24 Parganas in November 2025. The assessment covered 308.1 km of city routes, 10 hotspot locations and 2.6 km of walk testing, evaluating 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G services across urban, institutional and residential areas.
The results showed Call Setup Success Rates of 100% for Jio, 99.81% for Airtel, 99.63% for Vi and 96.53% for BSNL. Drop Call Rates stood at 0.00% for Jio, 0.19% for Airtel, 0.37% for Vi and 2.46% for BSNL. The highest 5G average download speed recorded in city tests was 273.82 Mbps, with peak upload speeds of 43.96 Mbps. Limited poor-signal coverage was observed, ranging from 0.19% for Jio to 7.89% for BSNL.
In Kolkata, TRAI’s findings highlight the city’s increasing dependence on high-speed data and reliable connectivity across key commercial and institutional hubs such as New Town, Salt Lake, Rajarhat and Joka. With growing digital usage for business, education and services, consistent network quality remains crucial for subscribers and telecom operators alike.
TRAI’s survey covered areas including Baruipur, Barasat, Barrackpore, Khardaha and several major institutions and hospitals. The findings have been shared with telecom service providers for necessary action. A detailed report is available on the TRAI website.
