Toyota Mobility Foundation Launches Global City Challenge

The Toyota Mobility Foundation, Challenge Works, and World Resources Institute have launched a $9 million global challenge to help cities adapt to the future. The challenge aims to transform millions’ lives across countries, including India, by focusing on reliable, efficient, and inclusive transportation. The initiative aims to apply advances in transport modes, infrastructure design, operations, energy options, and connected data systems.

Entries are open to city leaders, municipal corporations, governments, transport departments, and other local and regional agencies from June 21st to September 18th, 2023. The Challenge focuses on expanding access to safe, affordable, and inclusive transportation, harnessing data for connected and resilient mobility ecosystems, and reducing environmental impact through low-carbon and renewable energy solutions.

The Sustainable Cities Challenge aims to enhance people’s lives by increasing access to jobs, education, and essential services. It combines cities and innovators to implement mobility solutions, reduce carbon, and build resilient transport systems using data. Ryan Klem, Director of Programs at the Toyota Mobility Foundation, said: “Throughout the Sustainable Cities Challenge, we are looking to come alongside cities to find innovative solutions in the areas they identify as critical to develop a scalable model for the cities of tomorrow.”
