Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Vice Chairman and one of the biggest stalwarts of India’s automotive industry, Vikram S Kirloskar, dued due to a heart attack at the age of 64 in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Kirloskar, who had pursued engineering degree from abroad, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, contributed a key performance in getting Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp to our country in the late 1990s.
A fourth-generation member of the Kirloskar Group which began in the year 1888, Kirloskar was the chairman and managing director of Kirloskar Systems Ltd and vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The Kirloskar Group mainly manufactures pumps, engines, and compressors along with other related products.
A resident of Karnataka’s Bengaluru, he was exclusively responsible for accompanying the Toyota group and beginning a huge automobile manufacturing industry in the state. For this, he was honoured by the govt and awarded with the ‘Suvarna Karnataka’ award.
According to Toyota India’s Twitter account, his final rites will be conducted in the Hebbal Crematorium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
