Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to launch a pioneering initiative, the Mobility Engineering Laboratory. This collaboration aims to bolster research and development in advanced mobility solutions, particularly focusing on electrified vehicle powertrain technologies.
Recognizing the need for academia-industry collaboration, TKM will support the lab from FY 2024 to 2027, facilitating the procurement of essential equipment such as high-speed dynamometers and vehicle simulation software. The lab, situated at IISc, will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary research in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, among others.The Mobility Engineering Lab will feature a state-of-the-art Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) Test facility, crucial for developing and testing vehicle drivetrain configurations under simulated real-world conditions. This initiative aligns with global shifts towards sustainable transportation and the automotive industry’s adaptation to greener technologies.
TKM’s commitment extends beyond technological advancements to educational initiatives. The company collaborates with institutions like the Government Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC) to impart industry-specific skills and support higher education initiatives in Karnataka. Prof. G Rangarajan, Director of IISc, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, foreseeing significant advancements in electrified vehicle technologies and academic programs. Mr. Sudeep Dalvi, Senior Vice President of TKM, emphasized the partnership’s role in fostering innovation and sustainable mobility solutions.
