Tourism Leaders Focus on Sustainable Growth and Regional Branding at Week-Long

The North East India Tourism Confederation successfully concluded its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Tourism Convention 2026, held from March 22 to 27 across Namsai, Anini, and Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. The week-long event brought together tourism stakeholders from all eight Northeastern states with a common aim to promote the region as a major global tourism destination.

The AGM, held on March 22, saw participation from 24 Executive Committee members representing different states. During the meeting, key organisational matters were discussed, and a new leadership team was elected through a democratic process. Tsering Wange was elected as President, while E. Banlumlang Blah was named Advisor. Yangchen Tongden Lepcha took charge as General Secretary, and Raj Kumar Das was elected Treasurer. The Vice Presidents include Elina Satapathy and Jhantu Roy, while Joe RZ Thanga was elected Joint Secretary.

Members also observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to departed members of the tourism fraternity. The organisation reiterated its focus on building a sustainable and inclusive tourism sector in the region.

The Tourism Convention 2026 was held from March 23 to 27 in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association, with support from the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

The convention featured a series of discussions on key issues such as sustainable and community-based tourism, better regional connectivity, investment opportunities, and joint branding of Northeast India. There was also a focus on promoting Buddhist tourism circuits linking the Northeast with ASEAN countries.

As part of the programme, delegates took part in a Familiarisation Tour covering Anini, Roing, and Pasighat in the Dibang Valley region. An interactive session was held with support from Mopi Mihu, Advisor to the Minister of Tourism. The session was attended by Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak, along with officials and local community representatives.
