Recently Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb extended financial assistance to traders impacted by the recent fire at Bidhan Market. Reportedly, on Thursday, the Mayor actually distributed cheques of ₹50,000 to the severely affected victims and ₹15,000 to those partially affected, drawing from the Mayor’s Relief Fund. Actually the fire, which broke out on September 28, caused extensive damage, completely destroying 9 shops and partially damaging 14 others in the market.
In fact during her visit to North Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced compensation for the affected traders of ₹1 lakh for the most severely impacted and ₹50,000 for those with partial damages. Actually the distribution of this compensation to the affected traders has begun following the CM’s announcement. This is actually good thing that government is helping the traders and by it common man are able to work properly. In fact Bidhan Market is very important area in Siliguri and this step actually shows that proper care of city is taken.
