Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recently unveiled two specially customized Toyota Hilux vehicles at the East Tech 2023 (ET2023) event, a technology showcase organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Government of Assam. This event serves as a platform to promote the development and production of cutting-edge indigenous defense technologies, emphasizing self-reliance in the defense sector. The Indian Army’s commitment to advancing Synergy, Research Development, and Innovation for modernization was a significant focus of this year’s event.
In response to an extensive market survey aimed at understanding the unique mobility requirements of various consumers, including the Indian Army, TKM partnered with an authorized external vendor to make specific modifications to the versatile Toyota Hilux. These customizations were tailored to meet the diverse needs of the Indian Army, showcasing TKM’s dedication to providing tailored solutions for special customers and supporting evolving mobility requirements across various markets and sectors. The modifications applied to the Toyota Hilux include the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Forest Patrolling Vehicle (FPV). The FDV is designed to offer essential vehicle servicing in remote and challenging locations, aiding the Army in its defense operations. On the other hand, the FPV is equipped with features like fog lamps for enhanced night vision, digital video recording capabilities, and a winch for emergency rescue operations, making it an ideal choice for patrolling and surveillance in challenging terrains.
In addition to these specialized modifications, the standard Hilux model was also on display at the event. Earlier in 2023, TKM delivered a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Indian Army, marking a significant milestone in their collaboration. In September 2023, TKM showcased two more customized Hilux vehicles, the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), at the North Tech Symposium organized by the Northern Command of the Indian Army. These efforts demonstrate TKM’s commitment to providing tailored solutions for the Indian Army’s unique needs and contributing to the modernization of the armed forces.
