MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed has switched from Raijor Dal to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), which was announced following AITC’s second list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, where Ahmed is set to contest from the Mandia constituency in Barpeta district. His transition is reportedly due to being denied a party ticket by Raijor Dal. Ahmed, a three-time MLA from Baghbor, has a history of party changes, having first been elected in 2011 as a candidate for the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). After his expulsion from AIUDF, he joined Congress, achieving victory in the 2016 and 2021 elections, only to be suspended for alleged indiscipline in October 2021. Other candidates named by AITC include Rojy Ahmed (Hajo-Sualkuchi), Avijit Mazumdar (Guwahati Central), Inus Kumar Kandapan (Chabua-Lahowal), Paresh Borah (Mariani), Parimal Ranjan Roy (Karimganj North), and Aziz Ahmed Khan (Karimganj South). Additionally, AITC modified its first list by withdrawing the candidature of Dulu Ahmed from Chamaria constituency.
