Every year, World Heart Day is observed on 29th September across the world to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its impact. India has a higher age-standardized death rate for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) than the rest of the world, with a DALY rate 1.3 times the global average.
CVDs strike Indians a decade earlier than the western population. World Heart Day is promoting the importance of knowing our hearts first, with the heart symbolizing the heart in the form of an emoji.A study by the American Heart Association found that daily almond consumption can lower the risk of heart disease, waist circumference, and belly fat. This suggests that dietary and lifestyle modifications can help reduce risk factors associated with heart disease. Almonds, a healthy snack, can lower LDL cholesterol, improve HDL cholesterol, and reduce heart-damaging inflammation.
Dr. Rohini Patil, MBBS, and nutritionist said “A review by a panel of Indian nutritionists and physicians, published in the journal Nutrients, suggests that daily inclusion of almonds as part of a healthy diet may help reduce dyslipidemia, one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease among Indians.”
